Our Traditions

India's history is rich with art and artisanship.  Our culture's love of beauty extends to every realm of life, from the intricate ephemeral designs of rangoli, to the resilient architecture of Fatehpur Sikri.  In everyday life, this love of beauty finds it's full expression in dress.  The riotous colour in a bandhni dupatta and the subdued self-colored embroidery of a fine cotton kurta are both part of this history.

At Sultana, we are ever mindful of the tradition we play a small part in.  Over the 25 years we have been producing and marketing clothing, we have worked with numerous gifted artisans and designers. We have seen classic embroidery techniques once reserved for the most exclusive of traditional outfits now utilized by contemporary designers. We have seen the market for prints move from Japan to India, with an explosion in the variety of motifs and colors. We have seen the market for Indian garments in the West (which we helped pioneer) develop by leaps and bounds.  Throughout it all, we have managed to retain a sense of adventure and kept an emphasis on quality which begins with the quality of materials we use and ends in our workshop where master tailors finish the garment.

We delight in producing clothes that will make your special occasions memorable and bring color to every day of your life.  We hope you will find something special in our current collection to add to your wardrobe.
